What made leader Bourguiba a social reformer ? How was his reform project revolutionary ? And why did Habib Bourguiba bet on investing in minds ? What is the nature of educational stakes in Bourguiba’s thought ? What are the most prominent social reforms accomplished during the Bourguiba era ? And why do some believe in Bourguiba’s presence among us today ?

These are the issues addressed by a group of prominent researchers, academics, and diplomats interested in public affairs issues, at a symposium organised by the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts “Beit al-Hikma”, in partnership with the Bourguiba Studies Association, focusing on the Bourguiba experience and its reform dimensions.

This event took place on June 1st-2nd, 2022, and its proceedings focused on the achievements of the national state that contributed to establishing societal model with modernising features despite the extent of the constraints.
